Upcoming EventsHighlands Nordic Ski Club sponsors a variety of events at the Sno-Park each year. From full-moon ski gatherings, to trail maintenance work days, you'll find all our activities listed here: In Leiu of a Fall Membership meetingSkiers, Welcome to the winter season. By this time last year we were skiing on groomed trails at Highlands Nordic Sno Park, and we will be doing so again as soon as there is enough snow. Our faithful groomers are lined up and are as eager to go as any of Santa's reindeer, and we may even have a new snow machine for them to use. There have also been some changes at the park as the Walker fire had its way in the Highlands. As far as I know, none of the Sno Park actually saw flame. However, the fire fighters used the area as one of their bases, and constructed lines in case they had to defend that part of the Highlands with a back burn. This affected the east side of the park. The west side also saw changes from implementing part of the Title II grant we received last summer. Here is a synopsis as I understand it. Title II The trees on the east side of Antoine's shared use trail have been cut. This will keep the set track from icing as there are no overhanging trees to drip melting snow. Parts of Hello Kitty, Shortcut, and Aava's Draw have been radically cut and, in the fall, were difficult to recognize. There are areas with lots of debris that may take quite a bit of snow to ski over this season. The work that club volunteers did on the trees lining Antoine going clockwise was not affected by the fire crews and remains an important improvement. For various reasons, including the pandemic, the fire, and some uncertainties about when the Forest Service would open the area to general use, we didn't schedule our annual workday, meeting and potluck. We will try and host a winter gathering if conditions allow. However, you can still pay your dues, which remains $20.00/family and 15.00/individual. The dues goes towards maintaining our non-profit status with the state, keeping our special use permit with the Forest Service, and various other items that come up throughout the season. You can pay your dues from our website at: http://www.highlandsnordicsnopark.com/index.html , or mail a check to: Highlands Nordic Ski Club 599 N Siwash Creek Rd. Tonasket, WA 98855 Whether you choose to pay dues or not, you must have a WA State Sno-Park Permit to park at the Sno Park. These are available on line at: http://parks.state.wa.us/134/Permits The permits are now $50.00 for the entire season, and remain the best Nordic skiing deal found anywhere, especially considering the exemplary grooming we have at our park. Look for non-motorized, seasonal permits. Daily permits are also available for $25.00. It's been a long hiatus since we've been on snow. I'm looking forward to soon inviting everyone to… Come ski!
